This is the picture I would pick for a school especially if its a elementary school. The colors and the patters of this beautiful peacock just seem fun and very kid friendly. Ashley jacobsen- school

While this one I would chose for a financial business I have no idea why but i associate Banks and thing such as that with sunset landscapes… It might have something to do with the fact they mostly decorate the bank i use….

This I would put in a prison. It reminded me of the story the giving tree It’s a story about a tree who gave all it could till it just couldn’t give anymore. It’s a good philosophy I believe humans should follow. Especially humans in prison because the point of prison is not only just to punish, but also to rehabilitated people so that they can better cope in the world and to learn how to be a better human. Prisons now really try to help people now… or at least the ones where I have family….

 Grims Side Job

The the Reaper was a skeletal figure who is often pictured with a scythe. The medieval artist would depict him with crossbows and spears but mostly with his scythe. Also it might be surmised that since the reaper (Medieval for Farmer) would cut down the once living crops to be harvested, it is then transferred to a  metaphor for the Grim Reaper harvesting humans, more specifically their souls.

A brief  look at the symbols that go with the grim reaper:

Must Artists Make Their Own Art?

images

Takashi Murakami and his various characters and designs

Contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is famous for creating brightly colored characters. Murakami designs his characters, but he does not actually make his artwork. The artist oversees a team of assistants who actually make the art.

Murakami owes a lot of his success to his assistants. Without them, he would not be able to produce nearly as much work. The assistants benefit too—they get to learn about the art world from a major artist. However, some people think the artists should not use assistants. They think artists should make their own artwork.

This is an old debate that has been going on since Andy Warhol and his factory. In my opinion 80% of being an artist is the making of the idea of the initial art itself. I believe that since artist like Warhol and Murakami Are the ones that come up with the ideas go through the  planning phases make the idea image of what they want their art to look like it’s theirs. Saying that since he has other people working under him helping him mass produce his art is like saying that in the kitchen even though the chef is in charge making the menu getting ingredients reviewing recipes and deciding the dishes for the night since he is not the one making the actual food he gets no credit for it.

He DID make his own work he just has people help him mass produce it. The assistant understand that and understand they will not receive credit for this work because they did not come up with the idea all they are doing are following certain templates and instructions to recreate the art and mass produce it.

In Dafen China highly talented artist work long hours in poor living conditions just to barely scrape by. While the anonymous copycats are being sold at extremely cheap prices to european and american  stores and retailers that will the sell them for 3 times what was originally sold for the artist how ever making only pennies. Most of the artist have two to four years worth of artistic training and education only to be use as mass production machines. What are we doing to make the life of these artist better? Well all we are doing is buying the slave labour paintings and proudly displaying them in our homes, restaurants, hotels, office buildings, etc..

I would probably not go o Dafen mainly because i would create a bit too much chaos trying to induce free thinking and personal expression resulting in anarchy and most likely my arrest.

I would not buy the mass produced paintings of old classics I would however be more than glad to support An artist original work done in free time.

I would not buy art at walmart whether it was made in Dafen or not walmart buys most of the art for pennies turns around and sells it for way more than its worth and I personally don’t care for the Aesthetic of those sold at walmart the cheap digital prints of Marilyn Monroe blowing a kiss is not something I would hang in my home.

If I could ask a artist from dafen 3 questions they would be in order

1. Is this what you want to do with your life?

2. if you had the chance to make your own art what would you make?

3. How are you able to cope with the way your world is?

numero uno

I would not be able to do what these guys do day in day out painting the same thing over and over again in sweatshop conditions. I would go crazy, but I suppose you got to do what you have to to take care of yourself and your family. The long work hours the poor living conditions but realizing that they live the life the original artist would have lived is…well it puts a lot into perspective. with the chinese economy the way it is and the american demand for everything cheap and easy to find it will be a while before artist like this can make there own art instead of mass producing others.
